Nk’ Mip Desert Cultural Centre Expansion

The Nk’ Mip expansion adds a gallery and function room, increased exhibition area and a renewed multi-purpose courtyard. This creates a focal point for the band’s most important gatherings and events, as well as hosting both travelling exhibits and the band’s collection of indigenous art. The goal of the expansion is that the Centre’s contents can be continually updated and that the community can host it for events from weddings to corporate retreats. The large window frames the rich desert, mountain and riparian landscape, providing an invigorating lens on an endangered landscape. The outdoor performance area will be separated from the adjacent desert by an electronic glass wall behind the performers. This wall will be clear for desert viewing when needed, but with a flip of a switch will go opaque, blocking the western sun and providing a neutral background to a performance
