About FLUID Architecture

At FLUID Architecture, we believe in the transformative power of architecture to forge deeper human connections and a profound sense of place. Our cutting-edge FLUID Sociality software tool reflects our commitment to creating spaces that foster social connection, joy, creativity, and resilience, ultimately enriching human interactions and strengthening community bonds.

Our founder, Bruce Haden, also brings a rich history of collaboration with Indigenous communities, infusing our designs for those communities and for other projects with a deep understanding of the unique character of each location.

We also champion personal architectural experiences, whether it’s for an individual, a family, or a small business. The word intimacy references a focus on craft and reminds us that architecture is only ever directly experienced at the scale of the human body.

Prior to founding FLUID Architecture, Bruce led multiple high-profile projects as partner at Human Studio and Dialog (formerly Hotson Bakker Boniface Haden), including the globally published and awarded; Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre, Calvin Kruk Centre for the Arts, UBC Student Nest Building (with B+H) and Vancouver House Tower (with the Bjarke Ingels Group).

Bruce is also an active member of the Canadian design community. He was the Jury Chair for the international design competition for Block 2 on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Bruce is a founding board member of the Urbanarium, has twice chaired the City of Vancouver Urban Design Panel, chaired the UBC Design Review Panel and assisted both Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto in setting up Design Panels. He curated the Future Scenarios exhibit at the Museum of Vancouver’s “Your Future Home” exhibit. His architectural journalism includes dozens of articles, radio broadcasts and the Urbanarium’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” podcast with Jenny Tan.

Bruce is co-author (with Bruce Irvine and Mark Holland) of “Urban Magnets” a book about an inhabitation based (as opposed to form based) approach to creating activated urban space.

Bruce discusses his personal and design philosophies on the Uniqueways podcast with Thomas Girard
