Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation Cultural Centre
The home of the Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation sits at an extraordinary location on the Yukon River. At this dramatic elbow the two sides of the river come close to one another. The new Cultural and Community Centre is intended to act as a building and landscape bridge between the two riverbanks to enhance the experience of a spectacular landscape for both Little Salmon First Nations members and for visitors. The building will include exhibit and interpretative space, archives, space for Yukon University, community space such as an Elder’s lounge, rooms for transcribing oral history, and a large-scale space for community potlatches and events.
The multiple cultural and community uses are organized along a spectacular “River Hall”, that expresses the deep connection of the Nation to the Yukon River.
The CBC reported on the project.
