Carrall Street Housing

325 Carrall St is a mixed-use heritage restoration housing development, located in the heart of Vancouver’s Gastown neighbourhood. This building provides 37 dwelling units ranging from micro-suites, studio units, and one-bedroom units, with retail on the ground floor. During the design the team successfully navigated the challenging overlapping policies governing micro apartments in the Gastown Historic Area Planning Committee. Due to the sensitive context of the site and its proposed use, this project required conscientious coordination between departments at the City of Vancouver, project stakeholders and the consultant team. The design team used Geosim’s advanced urban modeling tools to help the City understand the exact building scale and character when seen from the street. The 6th storey features a communal rooftop deck that looks out onto the North Shore mountains and amenity space with a dining room for social gatherings. This type of panoramic shared space is a useful livability enhancement that complements the compact living units.
