Granville Island
Granville Island 2040 was a planning project commissioned by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to produce a comprehensive vision for Granville Island for the next quarter century. The work was led by HCMA in collaboration with Bruce Haden. The report looked to the future of Granville Island through the four strategies of improving access, expanding public space, embracing the arts and innovation, and restoring and sustaining the public realm. Central to the success of the plan was a desire to integrate the modern uses of the island with the historic — yet active — industrial uses such as concrete production.
FLUID Architecture has built on this work with an ongoing consulting contract with Granville Island to advise on strategy and to generate design ideas for key locations on the Island.
